In 2016 and 2017 Abergavenny’s very own ice cream king, Chris Copner delighted pupils at Llanvihangel Crucorney School and the Crafty Women group when he arrived to hand out free ice cream as part of the Chronicle’s great ice cream giveaway.
This year Chris is back with another great giveaway and this time he is aiming to encourage local schools to think about road safety and get pupils thinking about the dangers of the road.
“ Its not only giving something back to our local community but also getting them to learn a valuable lesson at the same time,” said Chris, who has run a national road safety poster campaign for ice cream vans for the past four years and is well known for his work with local charities.
The best poster design will win ice cream for the whole school and a visit and road safety talk from Abergavenny police officers. The posters should highlight the need for drivers to slow down near schools and allow pupils to walk or ride to school safely and/ or encourage young people to take care on busy roads
TO ENTER THE COMPETITION: To be in with a chance of winning simply design your road safety poster on an A4 sheet and send it to the Chronicle office. The designs will be judged by a panel headed by Chris and Chronicle editor Liz Davies. Entries should reach the Chroncle office by Thursday, May 31.
