WILD swimming expert and river pollution campaigner Angela Jones took Monmouth MP David Davies for a dip to tell him of her concerns, ahead of hosting a public meeting in Usk tonight.

Angela said: “He admits that both Usk and Wye rivers have hugely declined since the last time I took him swimming three years ago.”

She says he does not agree with a recent National Resources Wales report downplaying the level of the problem, and is not happy with the lack of fines for polluters.

“He agrees with me that NRW are not fit for purpose, and he also says he will help bring Welsh Water to account and poultry farms that pollute.”

Angela held ‘Death on the Wye’ water-borne funeral protests complete with floating coffin over the summer, and says phosphate pollution from chicken farms upriver and sewage are destroying the river eco-systems.

Angela Jones is holding a public meeting at Usk Legion tonight (Wednesday, October 6) at 7pm to bring the community together to campaign for Dwr Cymru to address the problems of sewage pollution in the Usk.

She has said she will stop paying her sewage bill until action is taken.

"The only way I know to move forward is to stop paying my sewage bill. I don’t believe in aggressive campaigning, I just want change,” she added.

"I will not stand by and allow this any longer. I don’t choose to throw my toilet waste in the river, so I’m certainly not paying you to do just that."
