THINK you can cover ten miles at a steady pace? Former sergeant major, Ian Waddell is looking for a walking partner to accompany him and Jack Russell, Jasper on regular jaunts around the hills.

Ian, 80, has spent decades raising funds for forces charities through his walking but now, while the desire to get out among the hills remains, severe osteoarthritis in both feet and recent knee and hip replacements mean that Ian has been advised to walk in company as a precaution in case of injury.

Ian told the Chronicle, ‘There’s nothing quite like getting out and about among the bills. My recent walking partner has had to stop due to work commitments so I am seeking a new sidekick.

‘I enjoy a challenge but for anyone with a reasonable degree of fitness it won’t pose too much of a test.’
