The Welsh Society for Rugby Union Referees has donated two thousand pounds to the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK in memory of Abergavenny RFC player Lewis Smith.

Each year the society adopts a charity or charities to donate funds to.

It was proposed by members of the Gwent Referees branch of the society that the charities this year be dedicated to the memory of 21-year-old Lewis Smith, who died last January at Gwernyfed RFC whilst playing for the Abergavenny Quins.
