Local producers need you! TV chef Valentina Harris says everyone should aim to eat more local produce for the success of local businesses within the community as well as the environment.

The Produce Award ambassador for the 2018 delicious. Produce Awards is campaigning for people to eat more local produce, more often. She’s working with Britain’s best food magazine on the awards, which aim to showcase the best of Britain’s top producers with the winning products and producers starring in the glossy food magazine.

Valentina Harris, chef, broadcaster, cookery teacher and champion of small producers will oversee a team of expert judges at the Welsh regional heat to be held at The Abergavenny Food Festival in September at the Fisher & Paykel award winning home appliance kitchen.

Readers of the magazine can nominate their favourite producers, and producers can enter the awards. All readers who nominate producers will be entered into a prize draw to win a fantastic Fisher & Paykel 90cm freestanding cooker worth £1,300. Producers have until April 16th to enter.

Eight UK food producers from across the country won delicious. Produce Awards in 2017 – three products from two local producers reached the finals of the delicious. Produce Awards 2017.

Welsh finalists were:

Conti’s Ice Cream, Lampeter, Ceredigion: Salted Caramel Ice Cream

Rhug Estate, Corwen, Denbighshire: Organic Lamb and Organic Aberdeen Angus Ribeye on the Bone

There were more than 1,000 public nominations, from which the list was whittled down in regional heats held in nine regions across the UK in the spring. A total of 76 products were shortlisted for the final tasting held in London last July.

The regional judges were Aine Morris, from the Abergavenny Food Festival; award-winning food writer Lindy Wildsmith; and food writer and broadcaster Elisabeth Luard.

Top chefs, food and drink writers and experts will this year judge nine categories in nine regional heats across the UK – the drinks category has been added as the ninth category this year to showcase the growing number of first class drinks – both soft and alcoholic - being produced in the UK.

Editor Karen Barnes says: “delicious. magazine has a huge, loyal following of food-loving fans so our awards build on our heritage as a publication dedicated to great-tasting food. We want to celebrate producers and artisans who are committed to quality and heritage. We aim to give a voice to the quiet heroes of the food world – the protectors of provenance and shepherds of sustainability.

“We know Wales has a huge number of producers who should be praised and rewarded for the work they do and exposed to a much wider audience. We hope that, through our awards, social media activity and winners’ publicity we can help them continue their valuable work and grow their businesses.”
