THE Chronicle’s weatherman Jonathan Powell is warning Monmouthshire residents to expect high winds this afternoon as the tail end of Hurricane Ophelia arrives in the area.

“Whilst the strongest winds are reserved from West Wales, we can still expect 50 to 60 mph gusts across Monmouthshire as Monday runs its course,” said Jonathan.

“The warm air associated with the hurricane may well invoke some lesser seen weather phenomena, including mini-tornado activity.  Peak winds are expected late afternoon and into the evening,’ he added.
