Residents of Victoria Street in Abergavenny will play their part in ‘The Great Get Together’ next Friday (June 16) with a coffee morning at the Methodist Church Hall in Castle Street from 10am to midday.

More than 100,000 events, ranging from street parties to bake-offs and barbecues, have been planned across the country to mark the anniversary of the death of MP Jo Cox.

Jo’s husband Brendan and friends are hoping that millions of people will join their neighbours to share food and celebrate Jo’s belief that ‘we are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us’.

The Abergavenny event will be opened by the Mayor, Councillor David Simcock, with entertainment provided by Abercappella and Open Arms.

Donations from the sale of refreshments will go to the charity Hope not Hate.
