Road closures will be in place this weekend as thousands of cyclists snake through Monmouthshire for the annual Velothon Wales.

Residents are being advised to plan ahead to avoid getting stuck, as road closures and delays are expected throughout the event this Sunday.

In Monmouthshire the B4598 Porthycarne Street, B4598 Abergavenny Road and B4598 Chain Bridge Road will be closed between 1.50pm and 2.50pm.

The A4042 from Llanover and B4269 will also be closed between 8am and 1.30pm, whilst the A4042 Usk Road and A4042 will be closed from 10am to 1.30pm.

Organisers have asked locals to check closure times, as rolling road closures are introduced this year, re-opening route sections after the peloton has passed through.

Wales’ premier cycling event will see a mix of professional and amateur cyclists take on either a 140 km route, or a 110 km version with half the gruelling climbs of the longer race. The peloton will snake through Monmouthshire before finishing in Cardiff.

Organisers said if anyone has carer responsibilities, holiday travel or other special commitments on Sunday July 9, to call 02921 660790.
