Usk RFC - 22
Pontllanfraith RFC -11
USK started Saturday's Division Five East encounter with Pontllanfraith in blistering fashion as John Green stormed over for a try in the first ten minutes.
Converted by Tom Parry, Usk's early lead was followed by a Pontllanfraith penalty and a try which briefly handed the visitors the lead.
However, Usk were the awarded a penalty for a late tackle on Tom Parry. While he was being treated, Lee Moulton slotted over the kick to take a 10-8 advantage going into the interval.
The second half started with a penalty score to Pontllanfraith. Usk responded immediately when Emlyn Jones sliced through the Pontllanfraith defence to put in Andy Farrell under the posts. Tom Parry duly converted the try.
With 10 minutes to go John Green went in for his second try of the game, giving Usk a final winning score of 22-11.
In some ways it was a disappointing game for Usk as they dominated the scrums and lineouts, but did not take full advantage.
Team Manager Neil Welford made a cameo performance, coming on as a sub and was sin binned within minutes, which saw Usk finish the game with 14 men.
