IT was a case of club on club as Usk Town's 'A' and 'B' sides met on the 'Island' in the first round of the Just Cars Pontypool Open Cup.

On the day it was nine goal thriller but the 'A' team got the better of the 'B's' as Joe Henry (2), Rhys Pritchard, William Barton, Lewis Thomas and Daniel Jones all scored to win the game 6-3.

Strikes for Usk Town 'B' came from Marc Cordell, Jon-Paul Glencross and Ben Willis.

Usk Town 'A' are away to Govilon in the next round, who beat neigbours Llanfoist 4-2.

Govilon led 2-1 at half-time through Danny Marfell and Jamie Wilkins. Andrew Ewers scored for Llanfoist.

In the second-half Ben Burgoyne bagged a brace for Govilon and Ben Marshall pulled one back for Llanfoist.

Gilwern and District visited the Big Arch Ground to take on Fairfield 'B' and thrashed them 1-6 courtesy of a hat-trick from a Kieran Shelvin hat-trick, a brace by Chris Perry and a strike by Andrew McCarthy.

Gilwern are away to Clydach Wasps 'A' in the next round.

Blaenavon Blues 'A' stormed to a 5-2 win over a visiting Cwmffrwdoer outfit after the sides were level-pegging at 2-2 going into the interval.

James Camage (2), Lee Carrick, Jack Moore and Richard Williams did the damage for the Blues.

In a clash of conflicting interests, Blaenavon Blues 'A' will now play Blaenavon Blues 'B' in the next round.

In the Premier Division, Llanarth pipped Pontypool Town to the post 3-2.

Steve Morgan bagged a brace and Michael Morgan netted for Llanath, whose man of the match was keeper Mark Batt.

Pandy powered their way to a 6-1 victory over Crickhowell at Lower Meadow with goals from Jason Osborne, Mark Hughes, Kirk Morgan, Chris Morgan, Shaun Moss and Gareth Staphnill.

Man of the match Alun Jones scored the consolation goal for Crickhowell.

Man of the match for Pandy was Chris Carter.

In Division One, Clydach Wasps were held to a 3-3 stalemate by Panteg in what was truly a game of two halves.

The Wasps led 3-0 at half-time with goals by Simon Tippins, Nathan Wall and Tyrone Gravell.

In the second-half Panteg bounced back with three of their own to level the match.

Man of the match for Clydach was Nathan Wall.

In Division two Prescoed made it nine wins out of nine with a staggering 0-12 victory over newcomers Mardy 'B'.

Man of the match Clinton Findlay scored a double hat-trick for Prescoed, Adam Stansfield got one of his own, Barry Jones got a brace and Tom Canning chipped in with a solo effort.

Man of the match for Mardy was Ashley Brown.

Second-placed side Clydach 'B' also had an impressive 10-1 home win over newcomers Pandy 'B'. Ben Ward (5), Bobby Baynton (2), and Evan Hall (2), all did the damage, alongside an own goal by Pandy keeper Shane Hughes.

Gareth Ewers scored a consolation goal for Pandy.
