Two former students of King Henry VIII School have been shortlisted for the prestigious Grierson Awards which recognise excellence in documentary film-making.
Tim Wardle and Owen Sheers, who both grew up in Llanddewi Rhydderch have created works that the adjudicators felt demonstrated quality,integrity and overall excellence.
Tim directed the documentary, One Killer Punch which was shown on Channel Four. The film dealt with people who had been involved in a minor fight in which someone died as a result following which they face charges of murder or manslaughter.
Owen wrote the Bafta nominated, The Green Hollow which dealt with the Aberfan disaster and its aftermath and was shown on BBC One and BBC Four.
The cast included Michael Sheen, Sian Phillips, Jonathan Price and many other well known Welsh actors. It also included the memories of people who had been there at the time.
Established in 1972, the Griersons are the biggest event in the UK documentary calendar. The awards recognise and celebrate documentaries from Britain and abroad that have made a significant contribution to the genre and that demonstrate quality, integrity, creativity, originality and overall excellence.
