I AM fully in favour of the cattle market redevelopment

scheme and look forward to shopping in Abergavenny at

Asda should I live that long!

However, I was not overly impressed with either design

yet favoured an improved option two when completing the

questionnaire. My wife was adamantly against both

designs and made her feelings known on her

questionnaire. Our son was also against the scheme,

whilst our daughter-in-law was totally enthusiastic.

Therefore, it would be ridiculous for any correspondent to

the Chronicle to state that 263 "positive and supportive

responses were made to Monmouthshire County Council."

Yet this comment has been made.

As far I am aware no detailed analysis of the 263

responses has been made public, just a statement that

263 responses had been received.

As a supporter of Asda and the whole redevelopment

scheme, I still believe that accuracy must be maintained

in all statements from both supporters and detractors of

the scheme and that inflammatory and accusatory

language from any source is unworthy and redundant. Let

us keep the debate adult and not resort to the language of

infants in the playground.

Incidentally, whilst my wife was born, bred and educated

in Abergavenny, I am a relative 'newcomer' to the area

having left Bargoed in search of work in 1959, so not all

incomers are against the change.
