Among many well-known local councillors who will not be seeking re-election on May 4 is 83-year-old Trefor Williams of New Rank, Llanelly Hill.
Trefor, a former miner at Roseheyworth Colliery and later a tour guide at Big Pit, has served for 15 years on Llanelly Community Council and been involved for much of that time with the Community Action Plan.
Among other things he fought for the right for his brother-in-law John Morgan’s remains to be buried at Llanelly Church, a campaign which ultimately led to the establishment of a Garden of Remembrance at the church and a tarmacked path to the graves.
Close friends of Trefor, his wife Jenny and sons Meirion and Lyn, were keen to mark his retirement from the local political scene.
“He’s someone people have always gone to with their problems. He’s done a lot for the community and we’re all going to miss him,” they said.
