TRAVELLERS have pitched on the town's Castle

Meadows site.

Around a dozen caravans can be seen on the

meadow as you enter Abergavenny over the Llanfoist

Bridge.

Gwent Police officers are at the scene to prevent

anymore travellers entering the meadows.

Residents have reported seeing children and

toddlers within the group.

Sergeant Wayne Yandle, of Gwent Police said,

"We are aware that they got into the secure site

overnight and we are currently liaising with

Monmouthshire County Council who own the land to

ensure that the land is used correctly.

"We are conscious that it's a regular dog walking

area with members of the community in Abergavenny

and we will ensure that the rights of all involved are

upheld. "Monmouthshire County Council will take any

action necessary to restore the land back to its

original use." Officers are at the scene are ensuring

that no further vehicles take up residence within the

meadow and are checking that all the vehicles using

the site are road worthy.

Sgt Yandle wanted to stress that the police were

doing everything in their powers to restore the land

back to how it should be, "We are conscious of the

needs of the travellers and residents are met," he

added.
