Two people have been arrested following the death of a 53 year old father and grandfather from Nantyglo this weekend. Emergency services were called to the scene of a road traffic collision on the westbound A465 between Llanfoist and Gilwern shortly after midnight on Saturday August 23. The motorcyclist, who has been named as Community Support Officer Alwyn Pritchard, died at the scene and officers are investigating the cause and circumstances of the collision. Mr Pritchard's family has described him as a 'beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle' and has said that he was a caring and loyal man who was respected by everyone who met him". "No words could ever describe how much he meant to our family and friends. He was an outstanding role model and made an impression on so many people throughout his life in the police force and as a foster parent. "He was our rock and we will try to live up to his expectations and wishes. "Nothing will stop the pain we are feeling and although we can never bring him back, he will live on in our fond memories and in our hearts. We are truly heartbroken. Chief Constable Jeff Farrar also spoke out about the death of CSO Pritchard, and said, "Alwyn was a committed, kind and conscientious Community Support Officer and was a valuable part of Usk Neighbourhood Policing Team. "This is a tragic loss and he will be sadly missed by the Force, his colleagues and of course the community. Our condolences remain with Alwyn's family" Paying tribute to Mr Pritchard a representative of Usk Town Council said, "The mayor, members and staff of Usk Town Council wish to express their deepest sympathy to the family of Alwyn Pritchard who was tragically killed at the weekend. "Alwyn was a popular PSCO in Usk, always a cheery smile and an offer of assistance was very forthcoming. He was a very energetic, efficient and capable officer and will be greatly missed here in our community." A 37 year old man from the Brynmawr area and 34 year old woman from the Gilwern area have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and have been bailed pending further enquiries.
