Members of Bryn-y-Cwm Area Committee have vowed to help the town council put pressure on Monmouthshire County Council to resolve the issues around the burnt-out building on Cross Street, Abergavenny. The building, which has been empty for years since the fire that caused the damage, has been deemed structurally unsound, and has been highlighted by MCC as needing urgent action. However some members of the area committee have expressed concern that little has been done, and they feel action needs to be taken in light of the thriving festival season bringing many people to the town of Abergavenny. This concern was raised by Peter Johns, Abergavenny Town Clerk, who stated that while the town council has tried to put pressure on MCC, it repeatedly is coming to no avail. The initial problem faced was the lack of knowledge on MCC's behalf on the ownership of the building, but this is no longer the case. Mr Johns asked in the meeting if the Bryn y Cwm Area Committee would assist the town council in putting pressure on MCC to help in finding a solution for this problem to move progress along. This was endorsed by Councillor John Prosser, and while some questions were raised about MCC having the funds to procure the building from the owner, the area committee agreed to help put weight behind this issue in aid of the town council to have the problem rectified.
