Abergavenny Town Council has taken the decision to cancel all Council meetings for the foreseeable future as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
It has also cancelled the VE75 anniversary celebration planned for May 8 and further events arranged to take place in June.
The Annual Community Dinner scheduled for Saturday, April 25, at which the Community Awards would have been presented has also been postponed. It is anticipated that the awards will be made later in the year but no date will set until government guidance is received that social distancing has been relaxed.
However, the services that the Town Council funds will continue. So for example, street cleaning, emptying of dog waste bins and cleaning of public toilets are all expected to operate as normal.
The planters and hanging baskets will also be planted for the summer and offer some cheer once the country starts to emerge from this pandemic.
The Mayor of Abergavenny, Councillor Tony Konieczny told the Chronicle, “The Coronavirus pandemic is unprecedented, and we all have a part to play in reducing its impact. Over the last week, I have been heartened to see different community groups, individuals and public bodies working together to offer support to those more vulnerable residents of Abergavenny. Local businesses have also responded with many offering deliveries to those self-isolating. Thank you all. The next few months will be a difficult time for us all so please continue to stay safe and stay positive.”
