WELSH national rally champion Damian Cole will be striving for a second title as the BTRDA Gold Star championship goes down to the wire at the Cambrian rally this weekend.

Driving the Get Connected Hyundai Accent WRC, Abergavenny's Cole enters the final event in a strong second position behind leader Will Nicholls in the Subaru Impreza WRC, with Hugh Hunter's Ford Focus WRC in third place.

Just three points separate the top three promising a compelling end to the season, yet Cole and co-driver Ian Allsop know that anything less than a win is not good enough.

"A win is essential on Saturday and any mistakes will cost me the Championship," says Cole.  "There is pressure to perform when you are this close to winning, but as soon as the first stage is underway the adrenalin will overtake the nerves and I plan to end the season on a high."

The Cambrian Rally, organised by the North Wales Car Club and incorporating the stages of Clocaenog and Penmachno, will start from Llandudno promenade at 8.30am on Saturday, November 1.
