Mardy Tigers U14 - 3
Cwmbran Celtic U14 - 0
Mardy Tigers U16 - 2
Villa Dino Christchurch U16 - 1
FOR the second consecutive year Mardy Tigers girls football club have won both the Gwent U14 and U16 Tesco Cup Finals.
Played on a glorious sunny afternoon at Goytre FC's Plough Road, the U16 side took to the field first.
With three of the Tigers due to travel to Belgium as part of the Wales U17 squad, team selection was a nightmare for manager Stuart Summers.
The game turned out to be a tight and cagey affair with Rhiannon Jones and Zoe Simmonds giving the young Mardy outfit a two goal lead in the first-half.
A Christchurch goal from a free kick just before the interval gave the Newport girls hope, but the Tigers saw out the game in the second half without too much danger and with all three 'Welsh' girls getting a taste of the action and travelling to Belgium without injury it was very much 'job done'.
The U14 team were up next and put in a fine performance to comfortably see off a brave Cwmbran Celtic outfit thanks to goals from Fiona Dodge, Jemma Davies and Alana Murphy.
Wild celebrations followed the final whistle as the U14's secured a place alongside their U16 counterparts in the Welsh Tesco Cup finals held this May.
Club coach Wayne Jeremiah said, "I would like to praise the girls for their superb attitudes and skill levels and also would like to thank Goytre FC for their super hospitality and fantastic playing surface."
Finally a very special mention must be made of the Mardy Tigers U12 team who became the first team this season to defeat Troedyrhiw U12, courtesy of an own goal and a Rhianna Harris strike.
