A SHOP which opened its doors in Abergavenny just two years ago is pulling out, citing ‘lack of footfall’.

The Flying Tiger store, part of a Copenhagen-based organisation that operates 740 stores worldwide, including seven others in Wales, sold an eclectic assortment of fancy goods and quirky, innovative items often of unique design. The store’s branches in Cwmbran and Newport remain open.

A local employee stated, ‘It’s a shame, it didn’t work out for us; we’ve been here two years but there just wasn’t enough footfall. Other local stores seem to be going well though’.

In a statement from the company, Kate Methuen-Lay of Flying Tiger Wales confirmed, ‘It is with great sadness that we have to confirm that as of December 31 the Flying Tiger store in Cross Street has closed its doors.

‘We have worked hard to keep it open following the fantastic support of the people of Abergavenny but unfortunately it was not to be.

‘We will retain our seven further stores across Wales, which carry the same fun range of quirky gifts and household essentials, and hope to welcome everyone to their nearest branch in 2018.’
