Tranch - 1

GOVILON'S meteoric rise saw them soar to yet another level on Saturday as they finally realised their pre-season aim of securing promotion to Gwent County Division One with a 3-1 victory over Tranch.

Once again Govilon started in whirlwind fashion, going ahead after seven minutes when Jamie Laurent's crisp shot from the edge of the six yard box found the top corner of the net.

Dean Morgan added Govilon's second after ten minutes, benefitting from a strong left wing run from Craig Thomas who slipped the ball inside the box for Morgan to cleverly clip into the net.

Morgan was on target again just after the half hour mark when good link play set him free and he beat the goalkeeper with a low drive - placing the ball just inside the post.

Govilon looked set for a rout at this stage but it was Tranch who scored next, and on the stroke of half time, when a defensive blunder gifted them a Govilon own goal.

Govilon continued to press after the break with chances falling to McCarthy, Laurent and Morgan but there were no further goals from either side.

Club Chairman Rob Francis told the Chronicle, "This is our third successive promotion and we are thrilled to bring Gwent County Division One football to our village .

"Full credit goes to our manager Steve Morgan and the team he has assembled for all their hard work and total commitment throughout the season."

Govilon are next in action on Saturday 25 April when their play their final match of the season at home to Fairfield Utd knowing that victory will see them crowned as Division Two champions.

Their County Motors Challenge Cup Final clash with local rivals Clydach Wasps has been set for Saturday 16 May at Pen-y-pound Stadium with a 3.00pm kick off.
