Two nights of top-quality drama are set to occupy the stage at the Blake Theatre, Monmouth as Gwent Young Farmers’ Clubs take over the venue for their annual drama competition.

On Friday 19 and Saturday 20 February Gwent YFC’s six clubs will compete, performing their plays, with much of the scripts, music, costumes, scenery and effects created by their members.

Trevor Bowen, competitions chairman of Gwent YFC said: “Members put an awful lot of effort into preparing for the drama competition and it really shows when they finally get to perform on stage.

“We have some really talented young people in Gwent YFC and competitions like this, let members share and develop their skills. Every year the drama, entertainments and panto competitions are thoroughly enjoyed by the audience, and this year is set to be no different.”

Friday night will see Crucorney, Raglan and Abergavenny YFCs compete followed by performances on Saturday from Usk, Bedwas and Wentwood YFCs. There will also be a ‘Time to Shine’ competition where the clubs not competing in the main drama competition that night will perform a short sketch of their choice while the stage is being changed for the next performance

Trevor said: “We would like to thank our sponsors the Tredegar Memorial Trust, FUW, Paul Jarrold Tyres and Powells Chartered Surveyors for their support and look forward to two great nights of YFC drama.”

The winning club will compete at Wales YFC’s Entertainment Feast in March.

Everyone is welcome to watch Gwent YFC’s drama competition. Tickets can be purchased from the theatre box office at £10 each or on www.theblaketheatre.org.
