THE theft of personal items belonging to a visiting rugby team to Abergavenny has left the players "devastated."

Eleven players of Risca Athletic Rugby Club had mobile phones, wallets, car keys, driving licences and a wedding ring stolen from a a secret compartment in the boot of a car belonging to the team coach on Saturday, October 15.

Kate Plews' husband had his wedding ring stolen and is desperate to get is back as it has the date of the wedding engraved inside - 15.10.10 - they had been celebrating their first anniversary on the day it was stolen.

Mrs Plews said, "My husband and his rugby team were playing in Abergavenny on Saturday and had put all the team's valuables into their coach's car but into a secret compartment of the boot.

"This was the only car broken into which indicates the thieves were watching and broke into the car.  Eleven players had car and house keys, wallets and mobile phone stolen,   However, my husband was worse off as he had his wedding ring stolen.  What makes it worse is that it was our first wedding anniversary today on Saturday.

"Several of the players said that the car park was very busy that day and somebody must have seen something.

"I am very shocked by this as I thought that Abergavenny was an up-market town in Wales and things like thefts don't happen around there."

Gwent Police confirmed the theft has taken place and anyone with information should contact them on 101 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
