IT?MAY have fallen foul of the Beast from the East but Abergavenny’s Borough Theatre will finally be celebrating all things Welsh with its rescheduled St David’s Day concert offering a feast of the best of Welsh music and culture.
Leading the entertainment at the theatre’s traditional performance, which takes place on Thursday, April 5, will be Blaenavon Male Voice Choir with special guests Gareth James, Lisa Davies and Christian Loizou.
One of the area’s favourite male voice choirs, Blaenavon will perform a mixed programme blending Welsh standards with more modern offerings.
The choir arrives at the Borough just after its making its debut at the Principality?Stadium in Cardiff, performing in front of an audience of more than 70,000 ahead of the Wales - Scotland which kicked off the Six Nations tournament.
“It was the first time we’ve been invited to do this but hopefully not the last,” said choir member Ozzie Arnold, who also performed with the choir at a successful concert at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff.
The choir’s Abergavenny performance, which is promoted by A4B, will help raise funds for the Borough Theatre, which has recently been taken over by Monmouthshire County Council after its board of trustees failed to secure the funding to keep it open.
Liz Davies, chairman of A4B said, “We were disappointed to have had to postpone the concert from March 1 but we are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the theatre on April 5 for a great evening...we’re just hoping it doesn’t snow again.”
• Tickets for the evening are available now from the Borough Theatre box office on 01873 850805 or at boroughtheatreabergavenny.co.uk and even include a free Welsh cake.
