THE GROIN FALL SHORT AT FIRST HURDLE

GLANGRWYNEY got off to a poor start in the Herefordshire Marches League Division One with a 96 run loss to last year's champions Garnons.

The Groin won the toss and Mr. Boswell elected to bowl first on a decent track. This decision proved to be prudent at first with both Ben (4/60) and Joe Bowker (3/53) striking in the first three overs.

Soon back in the hutch was also the prolific Andrews who was sold a kipper by his batting partner and run out for 20.

It was left mostly to A. Jones (82) to steady the ship and along with S. Withers (24) milked the visitors bowlers for the fourth wicket.

Ben and Joe Bowker returned and picked up five quick wickets with the former picking up the scalp of Jones. Garnons continued to play their shots however and with Bendall (58) and Bracer (15) swinging from the hip the home side reached a more than competitive 269 all out.

In reply Glangrwyney got off to a blistering start with Mike Parker (19) and Tim Jones rolling at nearly sevens from the first 10 overs.

Jones in particular was in sparkling form hitting 72 at well more than a run a ball, in the process smashing four huge DHS maximums.

Unfortunately Jones' departure brought about a patented Glangrwyney batting collapse with no other batsman passing 20 and the visitors were eventually dismissed for 173 falling well short of their target.

The new leg side wides rule hurt the visitors, bowling a massive 43 to the home sides 10. This is something that Glangrwyney's bowlers will need to rectify sharpish before their next match at home to Builth Wells.
