THE 'Groin' finished the season on a high with an epic five run victory over Bartestree.
Mr. Boswell ignored the shouts of 'tails for Wales never fails', lost the toss and Glangrwyney were put into bat.
The track looked a bit dank and Mike Parker boldly predicted '130 will win it lads'. There were almost 500 runs scored in the match.....
The Groin Openers Paul Daniell (52) and the aforementioned Dennis Parker (21) got the visitors off to a good start and there were contributions all the way down.
Daniell batted sensibly allowing the likes of Joe Bowker (32), Tom Grubb (26), Nicky Pooler (28) and Ben Bowker (18) to play with gay abandon setting up Glangrwyney for a big score.
It wasn't until the prolific Tim Jones came in at number eight that the real fireworks started scoring 42 in quick time. Glangrwyney scored 246/9 from their 45 overs.
Bartestree started well with youngster Jack Aldous-Fountain (52) in fine form. Once the initial breakthrough was made by Joe Bowker, however, Phill Bowker (given out earlier in comical fashion obstructing the field) was introduced and started spinning the Groin into a winning position.
The home side's middle and lower order had other ideas with Steve Fortey (32), Russell Barnett (40) and some big hitting from Gary Hattingh (38) took Bartestree within a whisker of victory.
The reintroduction of Joe Bowker and excellent ground fielding and catching in the dark from Glangrwyney left Bartestree needing 14 of the last over.
This was in the end too much and Glangrwyney ended up winning by five runs.
Glangrwyney were already safe before this game but the victory ensured a middle of the table finish which can be seen as an achievement given results at the start of the season.
There were contributions throughout the team with Tim Jones averaging over 50 with the bat. There were winning knocks from Tom Grubb, Joe Bowker, Nick Jones, Mike Parker and Paul Daniell, along with the early season batting renaissance of Ricky Ashe. Both Ben (34) and Phill Bowker (31) took over 30 wickets and Tom Grubb (22) and Joe Bowker (29) were also the main contributors.
Geffward Holmes apparently pouched the most catches although there will be a steward's enquiry.
Glangrwyney seconds rounded off their season with a comfortable victory on Saturday. Almeley were put into bat and struggled against the opening bowling attack of Hadyn Davies and Tom Miller, which saw few runs given away, and a couple of wickets claimed.
First change bowler Eddie Harding claimed three wickets in his first two overs, and was taken off to give the others a chance, but with Almeley's B.Hill staging a fight back, Harding returned to wrap up the innings immediately, and claim a deserved five wicket haul.
In reply, Glangrwyney eased their way to the target, thanks to skipper Tony Jones, who passed 50 for the second week running. Jones added 86 with Rob Richards, and 21 with Tom Miller, to achieve a seven wicket victory.
