More than 200 people helped raise thousands of pounds for cancer research at this year’s ‘very successful’ Great Abergavenny Bake-Off.
Despite the off-colour Bank Holiday weather, hundreds packed the town’s cricket club to watch 53 competitors bake their best in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Back for its sixth year, judging was down to Emmeline Vieregge of Emmeline’s Homebaking, Kirsty Thomas of Cactus Productions, who has worked on a number of TV shows including BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, Jan Howells of The Victorian Team Rooms, Simon King of 1861 and Odette Phillips of Clams Handmade Cakes
Organiser Helen Skelton said that more than 200 people had turned out for the event, hailing it as ‘very successful’.
Visitors also got stuck in with cake decorating and charity stalls, whilst children played on the cricket pitch as the sunshine broke through.
The £2,000 raised at the event will go directly to Cancer Research UK along a donation to the Tenovus SingWithUs choir, which performed during the afternoon.
