The organisers of Abergavenny Carnival are urging the public to come forward with support for the event, amidst fears the town may lose it forever. The carnival organisers will be meeting with the town council next month to discuss the future of the carnival, but Chris Evans has his concerns at the lack of support the carnival has had in recent years. Chris said, "I really do want to thank everyone who attended and took part in this year's carnival, but with such a shortfall in entries for the parade, we are worried that it could be slowly dying out. "I went to other carnivals near the area such as Ross and Monmouth, and their parades had much more substantial turnouts, and it makes me wonder why Abergavenny is failing to get this. "We have around nine schools and it is a poor show that only - Llantilio Pertholey can be bothered to attend. We also have local groups like guides, scouts, dance schools and youth clubs, where were these? "We understand the insurance issues of getting mechanical floats, but that does not stop walking entries. "We need the people of the town to come forward and show their support, otherwise this long standing tradition may come to a close." To show your support to the carnival ahead of their meeting with the town council, write to Chris via his email at [email protected]">[email protected], or call him on 07535 939516.
