THE Bryn y Cwm Area Committee has announced plans to close Cross Street in Abergavenny on certain days during the Summer. The times and dates of the closures have been decided by a partnership of town groups including the Chamber of Trade, Town Council, representatives of Market Traders and disabled people as well as Monmouthshire County Council's Bryn y Cwm Area Management Team. Chairman of the Bryn y Cwm Area Committee, Councillor Chris Woodhouse says the times have been especially designed to fit in with events. "The dates have been chosen to coincide with events already happening in the area, such as the Arts Festival and Food Festival." "We have taken on board people's concerns and hope that this summer's closure will better suit the town." Councillor Woodhouse says there will also be special provisions made for disabled people. "On each chosen day, the Shopmobility scheme will be open all day, and an area in Brewery Yard car park will be set aside specifically for use by disabled people." "All we need now is some good weather to make these days a real success." "I would like to thank those who have worked with us on this, especially Neil McDonald, Andrew Hinksman, Ken Watkins, Jenny Barnes along with the Town Council and Monmouthshire County Council officers." Cross Street will be closed from 6am to 6pm on June 11, July 30, August 6, August 21, September 17 and September 18. Lower Castle Street will be closed from 9am to 5pm on September 17 and September 18.
