The new ticketing system will be launched in Abergavenny’s Red Square in the centre of town on Friday, April 8 with a special fanfare from the town’s Borough Band on Saturday, April 9 from 10am to 1pm. There will also be the local Jerusalema Dance Group led by Sandi Tatum performing in the Square.

The Abergavenny Steam Rally was in danger of being wound up in the year 2000 due to a decreasing lack of organisers but was saved from extinction by the town’s Rotary club which with a band of enthusiastic volunteers has run it successfully ever since. Covid cancelled the show for the last two years and now organisers are looking forward to a grand re-opening for the Queen’s Jubilee, bigger and better than ever before.

Rotary will set up their stand in Red Square on April 8 and 9 and Saturday May 14 to promote the Rally and the advance sales ticket facility supported by the Borough Band and other performers all adding to the atmosphere. There will also be a colourful Steam Rally display of photos in the Rotary tent as well as streamed fairground music played at the Rally. The last Rotary promotion in Red Square was on a Market Day in March and raised over £2,500 for Ukrainian refugees in Poland.

“We are really excited the Steam Rally is back,” said committee chairman David Hassall. “It’s a great show, and because we are all volunteers the vast majority of money raised goes to local charities and worthy organisations. It is very much a home-grown show, but still attracts a vast audience of people who travel long distances to experience the sights and smells of a very different day out. By coming bang up to date with advance ticketing online, visitors can buy their tickets before travelling and save some money at the same time.”
