The power of wheels will be the theme of this year's Abergavenny Steam Rally in Bailey Park on the Sunday and Monday of May Bank Holiday.

Huge wheels turned by steam, motorbike wheels powered by petrol and smaller wheels with pedal power. A stunning programme of events is of course led by the mighty leviathans of steam but in the arena will be the Flyin Ryan Motorcycle Stunt Show and the RJ Ride Guide, extreme mountain biking with a difference.

Both acts take their craft to the extreme with Flyin Ryan Griffiths – ex British Championship and International motocross competitor has taken his skills gained from over 30 years of schoolboy and professional motocross racing to provide a safe and exciting show. A compact and professional show, filled with speed, power, action and control. Riding a high-powered motocross bike, Flyin Ryan performs huge motorcycle jumps over cars, steam engines or anything else he can get his hands on.

RJ Ride Guide has some of the most talented mountain bikers in the UK, including Rich Johnson, seen on Blue Peter, Extreme Sports Channel, Disney Channel and headlined events for Tour De France London, Tour of Britain, and the Saab Salomon Avalanche.

Rich Johnson is not just a talented trials rider but also a phenomenal entertainer with the easy banter of a stand-up comedian, combining technique with superb showmanship with some truly jaw dropping tricks and manoeuvres. Not only does he perform cycling miracles, he dramatizes them as well.

A highlight of the two day celebration of metal and steam is the Sunday Steam Run round the town. Ivor Trotman who master-minded the show for 25 years until Rotary took over ten years ago sadly died recently and the run has been named the Ivor Trotman Steam Parade.

"We owe an awful lot to Ivor," said John Hay chief organiser of the Rally, "because without him the rally would have foundered a long time ago. Now it is the premier charity fund raiser in the area, and because Rotary and our helpers donate their time and efforts for the good of the show, local charities receive the maximum benefit."

The full title of the show is the Abergavenny Steam, Veteran and Vintage Rally, and as well as steam there are plenty of veterans and vintage vehicles. Military vehicles, classic cars, motorbikes, even traditional caravans make up a kaleidoscope of colour, sights and smells in Bailey Park in the centre of Abergavenny.
