IN A bid to tackle shoplifting Abergavenny shops are using a two-way radio linking them to local police officers.

The 18 shops that currently use Storenet Radio are able to exchange valuable security information to police about shoplifters and anti social behaviour, easily and quickly.

Abergavenny town centre officer, PCSO Ruth Moyse has been working with the shops involved to make better use of the Storenet Radio.

PSCO Moyse said, "Unfortunately, we do suffer from shoplifting in the town centre and Storenet is such a valuable tool in helping us catch offenders.

"Recently a call was made regarding a potential shoplifting incident. Within ten minutes my colleague and I had identified the person from a description given and the situation was resolved. This demonstrates how effective the system can be."

Store Manager for Nicholls in Abergavenny Richard Barber added, "We have been using Storenet since it was launched and use it on a daily basis and find it really useful. It gives us an early warning that shoplifters are in the area and gives us descriptions if known of any offenders. We are grateful to PCSO Ruth Moyse who has driven the use forward in Abergavenny but we do need more stores to sign up to make the system even more supportive."

If any shops would like more information on becoming part of Storenet, please contact PCSO Moyse at Abergavenny Police Station on 01495 233917.
