Renowned musician, Jeanette Massocchi, heads an international cast at a choral

concert on Sunday afternoon on 1 November 2009 at Our Lady and St Michael's

Catholic Church, Abergavenny.

Jeanette, well-known in the area as an accomplished vocal coach and accompanist,

as well as her work with the Abergavenny Eisteddfod, has invited two rising

stars to Abergavenny for the concert. Dublin born and based countertenor, Ben

Barnes, and Spanish tenor Ignacio Viguera Paris , both of whom she tutured over

the summer in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria where she was teaching on the Academia

Internacional de Verano course.

They will be joined by the more locally-based but equally talented Lorraine

Webb, soprano, and Roger Langford, who will be swapping his role of conductor of

the Gwent Bach Society for bass sololist in Mozart's joyful Regina Coeli

(conducted by D Martyn Jones) and Haydn's poignant setting of the Stabat Mater.

Between the two choral works, there will be a performance of the much-loved

Trumpet concerto of Haydn played by Ralph Tong, who lives in Caerleon.

The concert has been organised by Torfaen Choral Society - a 40 strong group of

singers from Cwmbran directed by Jeanette Massocchi - and they will be

accompanied by the St Woolos Chamber Orchestra, led by Christoph Madler.

"The Choir's motto is 'unity in song' and it is indeed always a privilege to

bring together musicians of diverse backgrounds to share in our music-making"

said Miss Massocchi. "It promises to be a truly pleasant afternoon of music

spent in the company of Mozart and Haydn in the beautiful setting of the Church

of Our Lady and St Michael's. We look forward to welcoming you."

The concert starts at 3.30pm and tickets are available from Abergavenny Music or

on the door.
