STUDENTS at King Henry VIII School have again produced first class results in their GCSE examinations.

The teenagers were jumping for joy this morning as the 214 in Y11 achieved a 96 percent pass rate with 61 percent of all passes at grades A*to C.

Thirty five percent of the year group obtained at least one grade A* or A, with 21 percent of all grades awarded being at A* or A. 13 students gained a minimum of 8 passes at A*/A.

Chris Bu* (9A*), Ellis Reed (8A*, 3A), Beth Cox* (6A*, 3A, 1B), Sophie Hughes* (8A*, 1A), Jo Wheatley* (8A*, 1A), Thomas Lines* (8A*, 1B), Jac Thomas (7A*, 2A), Kate Nicholas (6A*, 3A), Matthew Von Pokorny* (6A*, 2A, 1B), Rhiannon Bramley (5A*, 1A, 1B, 2C), Alex Macpherson (5A*, 2A, 3B), Sian Evans* and Julian Jones* (both 4A*, 5A, 1B), Rebecca Winstanley* (4A*, 3A, 2B, 1C), Garth Minton* (4A*, 1A, 3B, 1C), Huw Davies (3A*, 4A, 3B), David Langton* (3A*, 5A, 2C), Robert Murray* (3A*, 3A, 4B), Hannah Fields* (3A*, 5A, 1B), Joseph Phillips (3A*, 4A, 2B) and Abi Matthews* (3A*, 3A, 3B).

Students marked with an asterisk (*) also gained a further two passes in short course RE and Welsh (Second Language).

In all, 65 percent of the year group achieved at least one pass at grade A* to C with 51 percent of the year group achieving five or more passes at grades A* to C.

Jenny Davis, 15, was "over the moon" with her grades, particularly the A she achieved in drama. She had one a, four Bs, four Cs and two Ds.

"I'm so relieved. I worked really, really hard and I wasn't expecting to do this well."

Jenny will be studying English literature, theatre studies, medieval history and art textiles at Hereford Sixth Form College.

Emily Jarmann, 16, was pleased with her five As, four Bs, and one C, "Close to the exams I studied really hard. I'm going to Crickhowell to do English, geography, law and art."

Abi White, 16, achieved the grades she needed to stay on and study her chosen subjects in King Henry VIII sixth form. "I had six Cs and E in religious studies and a U in IT which I am disappointed with, but I'm pleased that I get to stay on and study art, health and social care, sociology and psychology."

Hannah Dale, 15, is also going on to complete sixth form at King Henry VIII, she said, "I got a B in business studies and sociology, five Cs, two Ds and a U in IT. I want to study art, sociology, psychology and textiles."

Lloyd Barcenilla, 16, was pleased with his four As, four Bs and two Cs, "I'm staying on a sixth form to study psychology, PE, IT and biology hopefully."

Head teacher Gareth Barker said, "Our students are to be congratulated on the success which they have achieved this year. I am particularly pleased that over 86 percent of the year group have gained at least 5 passes at grades A* - G which demonstrates that pupils of all abilities are succeeding at King Henry VIII School. We are confident that this year group will go on to achieve a great deal in their sixth form studies over the next two years."
