UPDATE 10.50pmTrains between Hereford and Newport have been cancelled tonight as several sections of track, ballast and embankment have been eroded or washed away in the Pontrilas area. National Rail is reporting the line is expected to remain closed until the end of the day on Friday, November 1.It is expected that information on replacement transport will be released tomorrow or Monday. UPDATE: Monmouthshire County Council has urged residents to avoid using closed roads and making unnecessary trips to see flooded areas. “ Please don’t walk down closed roads/ bridges to look at water levels it is extremely dangerous,” said a council spokesman in a social media post. “To the groups of people who are currently stood on Llanfoist Bridge we are really worried about your safety please go home and watch tele in safety instead,” urged the spokesman. UPDATE: Flooding at Llanfoist has closed the Usk bridge tonight. The road became impassable after a day of heavy rain in the area. Flooding has also affected Crickhowell with parts of Leger under water. Severe weather across the area has seen a number of local roads closed with Gwent Police dealing with ‘numerous floods’.
