A SWOOP on a pub in Abergavenny resulted in four arrests for drug possession.

Following community intelligence and proactive policing, police officers in Abergavenny took action and carried out a search warrant at The Britannia public house on Frogmore Street on Monday 1 May at around 7pm.

As a result of the search, four men were arrested for possession of cannabis, one male was arrested for possession of amphetamine and one male was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon.

Detective Constable Vicki Townsend of Abergavenny Police Station explained, "These arrests reflect the seriousness with which the police in Monmouthshire will deal with individuals found in possession of drugs or illegal weapons.

"We do not have a problem with drugs in Monmouthshire however by making these arrests, we are making our streets even safer and drug free."

DC Townsend added, "We would like to pass on our thanks to the public for providing us with this information which enabled us to take action. We always treat information received from the public seriously and confidentially and we will always take positive action on the information supplied."

The male arrested for possession of an offensive weapon and a sharply bladed article has been charged and is due in court later this month.
