Crickhowell High School was put on lock down on Friday after three men were seen nearby with a what could have been a weapon.

The incident happened at 2.05pm on Friday on New Road on land next to the school and was said to have been ‘overheard’ by some pupils.

Police said they were called to the area after a report that three men had been "seen on land adjacent to Crickhowell High School grounds, with possibly a weapon".

Dyfed Powys Police said three men have been detained and are helping officers with their inquiries. Officers remained in the area on Friday searching for evidence.

A spokesman for Powys County Council said safety procedures were put in place at the school after the incident was "overheard" by pupils.

He said: "The incident occurred on land adjacent to the school. This is a police matter.

"The incident was overheard by school pupils and safety protocols were put in place. No pupils were in danger."
