WORLD Book Day was celebrated a week later than usual in Abergavenny schools due to the heavy snowfall.

A surprise visitor was American president Donald Trump who ‘turned up’ at Llantilio Pertholey Primary School.

Literacy co-ordinator and deputy head Mrs Nicola Balkwill said she was pleased that almost all the children had dressed up as their favourite character and there were lots of original ideas.

She added,’There are also lots of the classical stories portrayed like The Railway Children, the Famous Five and the Nutcracker as well as current favourites like the Harry Potter stories, Roald Dahl and David Walliams with two boys brave enough to appear as The Boy In The Dress. There’s a nice mix of characters, and no author has dominated this year.’
