FUNDING to the tune of £4million is to be spent towards a new 21st century school and nursery in Blaenavon.

Andrew Davies AM, the Welsh Assembly Minister for Finance and Public Service announced the funding details which form part of a £15million project that will provide a wide range of community services for the residents of Blaenavon and the surrounding area. The integrated campus, on the former pool site, will provide a new 130 place nursery and 450 place primary school, community leisure, including sports hall, dance studio, fitness suite and games area, a Primary Care Resource Centre with new doctors surgery, pharmacy and dentist and a council customer care point with access to police, community safety and advocacy services such as tax and credit union advice.

Councillor Bob Wellington, Leader of Torfaen Council said, "This announcement is fantastic and exactly the news we have been waiting for. This £4million is the final piece of the jigsaw and as promised we will deliver an exemplar school and nursery which will transform teaching and learning in Blaenavon and give children the best possible start in life. The funding will help people where it matters most and will deliver real benefits for the whole community."

An outline planning application for the whole site and a detailed planning application for the primary care resource centre will be submitted after Christmas. The developers are planning a public exhibition to show the community the plans with details of the date, time and venue to be advertised.
