The Spring 2013 season at Abergavenny Borough Theatre opens with 'Oh Whistle', an evening of ghost stories by M R James, performed by Robert Lloyd Parry. Ticket price includes a glass of mulled wine.
There's a wealth of music this season, with a performance of J S Bach's 'Goldburg Variations' by the internationally renowned harpist Catrin Finch and a recital by the young violinist Yuka Ishizuka.
Other music events include one of Britain's must-see roots acts - Jamie Smith's Mabon; an all female band, The Shee who have been taking folk festivals by storm; the greatest hits of Electric Light Orchestra reproduced by ELO Experience; Limehouse Lizzy - a tribute to Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy; and I Love To Boogie Tour by T-Rextasy, the official tribute band dedicated to Marc Bolan and T-Rex.
The National Dance Company of Wales' Graduate Ensemble visits Abergavenny to showcase the company's work. The company will also be offering free contemporary dance workshops for young people in conjunction with Dance Blast.
There's some unusual theatre including Forest Forge's 'The Boy At the Edge of The Room' – an examination of difference and acceptance, and Idle Motion's 'Borges & I' exploring the life of writer Jorge Luis Borges. The Company of Storytellers performs its acclaimed 'The Three Snake Leaves' based on adult stories from the Brothers Grimm with evocative music by Gillian Stevens and Dylan Fowler.
Tickets are already selling fast for stars of the comedy world including Mike Doyle, Lucy Porter, Barry Cryer and Ronnie Golden.
As always, local community groups present a wealth of productions. Gwent Young People's Theatre performs Charles Dickens' 'Great Expectations' with a large cast of young people. The Abergavenny Pantomime Company presents 'Aladdin' during February half-term; there will be a St David's Day Concert with local performers including Gilwern Primary School and Ebbw Vale Male Voice Choir; and two musicals including 'Me And My Girl' performed by the Concept Players and 'Chess' from AAODS.
