Voters in Monmouthshire are urged to register and turnout in this month’s crucial referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union.

Current polls show a close-fought battle as campaigns on both sides become increasingly aggressive in attempts to win over voters, a high percentage of which remain undecided.

Monmouthshire council leader, Peter Fox, said, “I urge all of the county’s residents to participate in the democratic process and ensure that we achieve a high turnout.”

With polls so tight, many pundits believe a vote to leave, or remain, could be decided largely upon which side manages to ‘get out the vote’ on Thursday June 23.

Monmouthshire County Council has confirmed that residents registered to vote – including those registered to vote by post - have no need to re-register in order to cast a ballot.

Poll cards, including postal ballots, have been sent to all entitled to vote in the referendum.

The deadline for registering to vote by post is 5pm on Wednesday, June 8.

Only those registered on the electoral roll will be able to vote. Applications to must be received no later than Tuesday, 7th June.

Residents who do not receive poll cards by Friday, 3rd June or are unsure whether they are registered, can check at www.gov.uk/registertovote.
