The Green Party launched its general election campaign to win the Monmouth parliamentary seat at a recent meeting in Abergavenny with local members joining candidate Ian Chandler and Wales Green Party’s Deputy Leader Pippa Bartolotti.
Ian said he was honoured to be chosen as candidate.
“Living in Monmouthshire, I know how much we all want leaders that show compassion rather than cynicism, leaders that take action on climate change instead of denying its effects, leaders that want to protect our vital public services instead of cutting them to the bone,” he said.
“I want to truly represent the people of Monmouth, a constituency that voted to remain in the EU, and I look forward to meeting voters during the campaign and discussing the many concerns we share.”
Pippa added, “This is one of the most important elections for a generation, and I would urge voters in Monmouth to think very carefully before casting their votes. In times of uncertainty we can’t afford to think small and Greens have big, bold ideas to create a better Britain.
“We aren’t afraid to hope for a better future or to be honest about how to get there.
“Our country has always been known for its tolerance and sense of fair play; taking care of those less fortunate, having a decent health service, fairness in education and protection of the natural environment.
“All these benefits have been hard won over generations but I would argue most strongly that they are now at risk.
“If the present government return for another five years our country could be unrecognisable. It already feels a harsher and less tolerant place.”
