Police raided an address in Abergavenny this morning, and arrested a man for alleged firearms offences.

Witnesses said a team of police vehicles converged on the address earlier this morning.

A police spokesman told the Chronicle, "At approximately 9.15am this morning, officers attended an address in St Davids Close, Mardy, after receiving intelligence about alleged criminal offences.

"A 44-year-old local man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of firearms offences. Officers remain at the address and enquiries are ongoing."

That spokesman also stressed that "There is no risk to the public."
