POLICE are hunting 55-year-old George Smith who absconded from Prescoed Prison, Usk, yesterday (Wednesday)

He is 5ft 8ins tall, of medium build with brown hair and has three tattoos on his forehead.

Smith was convicted of robbery in September 2013 and sentenced at Worcester Crown Court to six years in jail.

A police spokesman said, “Smith is not a registered sex offender but it’s believed there may be a potential risk due to the fact that the individual is no longer in the custody of the prison service.”

Smith has connections in the Hereford area.

Anyone who has seen him, or has any information about his whereabouts, is asked to ring 101 quoting log 209 of August 19.
