GWENT police is appealing for information to the whereabouts of a convicted burglar who absconded from HMP Prescoed.

Lee David Pearson, 22, went missing from the open prison on Saturday, October 2.

Pearson, who was convicted for burglary at Swansea Crown Court on December 31, 2009, has contact in the Neath and Port Talbot areas.

Police say he is not a sex offender and is not serving a life sentence but advise the public not to approach him.

Pearson is described as 1.8 metres tall, 78kg, black with shaved dark hair and dark eyes.

Gwent Police has activated its operational plan with the aim of locating the individual and the prison is co-operating fully with them.

They said it is believed there may be a potential risk to the public due to the fact he is no longer in the custody of the prison service.
