UFO activity has been troubling the skies in the Abergavenny area.
Two curious incidents in the night time have been reported which are the stuff of media interest.
The latest drama was on Sunday evening when the police helicopter was scrambled to investigate reports of a ‘low flying object’ travelling towards Usk.
But officers on the aircraft were not able to trace anything suspicious whizzing around the untroubled town.
One witness said, “I saw the chopper was up - and wondered what crime was being committed. I would never have guessed they were responding to a UFO sighting.”
The alarm was raised at 8.30pm.
Night vision equipment on the aircraft drew a blank - as did officers searching on the ground.
The first inexplicable caper happened just a day before in the Clydach Gorge.
This particular UFO in the middle of the night had one mesmerised witness reaching for his mobile phone to film the mysterious phenomenon.
The resident in North Clydach was totally baffled by the bright and big glow in the heavens which distracted him during a nocturnal visit to the bathroom.
He had no other explanation for the vision except to say it was a UFO, pure and simple.
“I thought at first it might be the Polar Star - but it was far too bright and big. It didn’t move and it made no noise, so it was not an aircraft,” said the beguiled gazer who gave his name but did not want it printed.
He is now anxious to know whether anyone else shared the same curious experience between 5.30am and 6am on Saturday.
“It was between other stars, but so much brighter and quite low on the horizon. I looked at it through my binoculars and then filmed it on my mobile. It wasn’t a satellite” he revealed.
He added, “It was like the glow from a brilliant lightbulb. It could have been about two miles away across the gorge. It’s hard to say.
“I would like to know if anyone else saw it - and if they did whether they know what it might have been.”
