Police have confirmed that the body of an elderly woman reported missing yesterday has been found after emergency services attended an incident on Llanfoist Bridge, this morning.

The deceased has been named as 82-year-old Anwen Elliot, from Mardy, near Abergavenny.

Police and emergency services rushed to Llanfoist Bridge this morning at around 7.40, following reports that a person was seen on the bank of the River Usk.

A spokesman for Gwent Police said, “We attended along with other emergency responders and can sadly confirm that a deceased female was found at the scene.  

“We can confirm the deceased as 82-year-old Anwen Elliott, from Mardy, near Abergavenny." 

Anwen was reported missing on Monday afternoon, before officers issued an appeal. 

Police are not treating the death as suspicious. Mrs Elliot’s next of kin have been informed.
