RESIDENTS of Govilon packed the village hall to voice their concerns over anti social behaviour threatening the well-being of the community.
The meeting, hoisted by Llanfoist Fawr Community Council, heard that local people felt that the village had become neglected and this had become a topical grievance amongst local residents.
The meeting was attended by local ward officer PC Jon Williams, who reassured the villagers that anti-social issues would be dealt with. He added that he had recently monitored speeding along the main road through Govilon.
His findings have been reported on the Owl web-site and he promised that all anti-social activity would be tackled and those responsible reprimanded.
Gez Richards, co-ordinator with the Routes & Roots Festival outlined his role within the Forgotten Landscape project and explained that Govilon is integral to the success of the project.
He revealed that he was eager to link Govilon to his future events and activities as well as teaming up with the community in Blaenavon as the areas share so much history together.
The meeting heard suggestions about forming a tenants and residents association and a working group will be liaising with Monmouthshire Housing Association with the ambition of improving community objectives that include creating facilities for local children developed within the village.
By forming a tenants and residents association it is hoped to create a vehicle to generate funding.
After hearing the plight of the area's youngsters preparatory arrangements are currently being made, with a number of parents willing to start a youth-club and who have ambitions to expand into other areas, such as outdoor activities.
The meeting also discussed other issues including environmental improvements which could be made to the area
Kay Malson (pictured) whose article in the Chronicle a few weeks ago highlighted some of the local community concerns said: "Hopefully, we will see Govilon village become a vibrant, colourful hamlet once again.
"I am really grateful to the Chronicle for its coverage of our plight as I have received many positive comments about my article and I am sure that because of it, a large number of residents attended last week's meeting."
