THE owners of the fire damaged building in Abergavenny's Cross Street, last used as an Indian takeaway have been fined for not undertaking necessary repairs to renovate the building.
Monmouthshire County Council's Chief Executive Paul Matthews said, "We served a notice upon the owners in August because of the detrimental impact the building has on the Abergavenny Conservation Area."
However the required works to the front wall, new windows and shop front, and protection for the head of the wall were not undertaken in the time limit. Monmouthshire County Council then prosecuted the owners, Mrs Chowdury and Mr Torofdur, who were fined £600 each with costs amounting to £250 each.
The court warned that if the specified repairs remain unresolved that the authority could take further legal action, which might result in the council carrying out the work and the authority recouping the expenditure from the owners.
