THERE's a chance to travel back in time at Abergavenny Castle and Museum this week and join the experts for a day of Medieval Mayhem On Friday, visitors to the museum will be able to meet the mercenary bowmen who will be demonstrating the art of medieval archery and even have a go yourself with the 'have-a-go' archery activity where experts will teach you all the basics of archery you need to get you started. You can also find out all about medieval arms and armour with our wonderful re-enactors and get a flavour of life at the castle with our medieval cookery demonstrations. If that's not enough why not try your hand at jousting on the museum's amazing mechanical jousting machine where you can experience the thrill of medieval combat on horseback! Guided tours of the castle will be available at 12.30 for children and families and 1.15 for adults. There are 'medieval' themed arts and crafts activities for all the family to make-and-take including shield making and 'princess' hat making, you can dress in medieval costume and explore a range of medieval objects. All activities are included in the ticket price: Children £3, adults £5, family ticket (two adults, two children) £15. Tickets can be pre-booked or are available on the gate from 10.00am During the afternoon there will be a chance to see the medieval skills put into practice when popular theatre company Illyria stage their acclaimed production of Robin Hood in the castle grounds as part of the Borough Theatre's festival of outdoor theatre. As darkness falls the outdoor performances continue with Illyria's production of Shakespeare's spooky chiller Macbeth. Earlier in the week the company will be staging Roald Dahl's ever popular George's Marvellous Medicine in the grounds of the castle with the fun kicking off at 3pm today (Thursday). Tickets for all performances are available from the Borough Theatre on 01873 850805 or on the gate from one hour before the performance.
